I've lost faith in the Republican Party | Letter

I live in congressman Mike Bost’s (R-Murphysboro) district and have voted for him in the past, however, I no longer identify as Republican and at this point will never vote for any Republican again, unless major changes are made and immediately.

I lost total faith in the Republican Party after Jan. 6, 2021. Trump and his minions are completely unqualified, and Trump pardoning those people infuriated me.

The deaths of Nicole Good and Alex Pretti never needed to happen and we’re completely avoidable. My hope is that the agents involved in these shootings are arrested, tried, and convicted. I also hope the Senate withholds funding for DHS this week until such time as they perform a complete overhaul.

Hell, they could completely disband ICE and start over at this point. This racial profiling that SCOTUS allowed will be the death of our democracy and must be stopped. I agree that we need to remove the “worst of the worst”, but that is NOT what’s happening.

I spent 24 years in the USCG, performing drug and migrant interdiction in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Pacific oceans. Not once did we ever feel the need to shoot at and kill drug runners.

These killings must also stop. We are not judge, jury, and the executioner. This administration has not shown one ounce of proof that any of those boats were trafficking drugs. Even if they were, they must still be allowed due process.
