Most El Paso-area school districts will have delayed openings on Monday, Jan. 26, due to anticipated freezing temperatures and potential icy road conditions.
The El Paso, Ysleta, Socorro, Canutillo and Anthony school districts, El Paso Catholic Schools and Las Cruces Public Schools announced that they will have a two-hour delayed start on Monday from normal starting times. The morning Pre-K classes for 3-year-olds will be canceled for the day at the El Paso, Ysleta and Socorro districts.
School bus transportation will run two hours later than normal pick-up times. Socorro and Canutillo ISDs added that breakfast service will be provided on a two-hour delay.
All Canutillo Independent School District campuses will open their doors at 6 a.m. in case any student needs to be dropped off early and needs a warm place to wait for the start of the day, Canutillo ISD noted.
El Paso city offices, Fort Bliss delay start
El Paso County and city of El Paso offices will have a delayed start to work at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, because of possible icy roads and to provide flexibility to workers impacted by the school delays, the city stated.
Public safety operations and essential personnel will continue as needed on department-specific needs, a city news release stated.
The El Paso County courthouse will open at 10 a.m. and citizens having jury duty on Monday should note the two-hour delay. The El Paso County Commissioners Court meeting will be at 10 a.m. instead of its 9:30 a.m. regular start time.
Fort Bliss will have an installation-wide late work call for soldiers and civilian employees at 10 a.m. Monday to align with the two-hour delay at schools and to reduce risks of possible icy roads, the 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss public affairs office announced.
Child and Youth Services (CYS) on the U.S. Army post will open at 9 a.m. to accommodate the later start time for soldiers, Fort Bliss stated.
