A Monroe County town and two Westchester County cities are some of the best places to live in New York, according to U.S. News & World Report.
U.S. News analyzed places in New York based on categories like quality of education, environmental risk, how comfortably the average resident can afford to live within their means, crime rates, average commute time and strength of the job market. The weight of each was based on a February 2025 public survey of what Americans believed were the most important factors when choosing where to live.
“From the Adirondack Mountains to the nonstop activity of New York City, New York state’s economy is led by financial services, health care, professional services, retail trade, manufacturing and education,” U.S. News said.
Here’s which New York cities, towns and villages made the list.

No. 2: Greece
No. 3: Hicksville
No. 4: Cheektowaga
No. 5: White Plains
No. 6: Tonawanda
No. 7: Glens Falls
No. 8: New Rochelle
No. 9: Elmira
No. 10: Lindenhurst
