How's construction going on Blue Ash's aquatic center? What we know

Construction is well underway on Blue Ash’s $11 million aquatic center, but when is it expected to be finished?

The envisioned facility at the Blue Ash Recreation Center will offer 14,600 square feet of pool space and a leisure swimming section, a vortex zone, four slides, a lap pool, new tennis and pickleball courts, cabanas and more.

The city revealed the pool’s construction progress and shared the most up-to-date completion date, as of early January. Here’s what we know.

Construction progress includes pool perimeter, water slide updates

Construction for the new aquatic center began in August. A flyover video of the construction area, which was posted to YouTube on Dec. 16, shows an identifiable perimeter of the pool, where crews began installing stainless-steel walls. According to the video caption, crews were also making progress on the lifeguard building, executing site utility work and constructing the building’s footers.

Crews also installed concrete block walls at the tennis facility, and were working on constructing the surge tank for a new water slide, the caption reads.

Is construction still on track to finish June 1?

The original completion date for the new aquatic center was June 1, Brian Kruse, director of the Blue Ash Department of Parks & Recreation, told The Enquirer.

Construction is currently on track.

“Things are going very well,” he said but added winter weather in the upcoming months could potentially set construction back.

What will the new Blue Ash pool include?

The new Blue Ash pool replaces the previous one that was built in 1979. That pool put all swimmers in the same rectangle, Kruse previously said, and it was starting to leak.

For the new pool, planned features include:

The facility will also include an existing wading pool for younger customers, which was upgraded three or four years ago.

Who can use the Blue Ash pool?

Membership to the new pool will be restricted to those who live or work in Blue Ash or attend the University of Cincinnati campus there, Kruse previously said. But guests can purchase day passes.

Individual memberships cost $75 and family memberships cost $150, with discounts for seniors and disabled persons. Guest passes are $10 a day.
