As schools approached the holiday break, several teams participated in competitive tournaments, some even traveling to face high-level opponents from other regions, and others had intense matchups with local rivals. Within that, there were a bevy of noteworthy performances, which produced for us 11 candidates for Girls Basketball Player of the Week, presented by White Plains Hospital.
Last week’s poll winner was Scarsdale freshman Abby Nadborny.
Read below about what the nominees accomplished last week, then cast your votes. The poll will be open until 3 p.m. Wednesday and the winner will be featured on lohud sports social media accounts.
Jaidah Arce, North Rockland
She starred in the Rich Korn Holiday tournament last week. Arce posted 17 points, nine steals and six rebounds in the Raiders’ win over Mount Vernon, then she had 18 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Newburgh in the tournament final.
Reese Carlo, Kennedy Catholic
The senior averaged 30 points and five assists last week, leading the Gaels in wins over Holy Trinity and Maria Regina.
Morgan Clinton, Fox Lane
She had 21 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks to lead the Foxes in a win over Harrison. Clinton also had 15 points, 10 rebounds and two steals against Rye.
Addie Dorfman, Mamaroneck
The senior scored the winner with three seconds left and blocked a shot at the buzzer, leading the Tigers to a come-from-behind 58-56 win over Ursuline. Dorfman had 17 points, 15 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
Phoebe Greto, Rye
Greto averaged 23 points and 11.5 rebounds last week in wins over Horace Greeley and Fox Lane.
Kendall Konigsberg, Blind Brook
The senior scored 29 points, including the 1,690th of her career to become the school’s all-time leading scorer, while leading the Trojans to a win over Dobbs Ferry last Wednesday. Konigsberg also had 39 points in a win over Valhalla.
Nina Muller, Rye Neck
The sophomore scored a career-high 32 points, leading Rye Neck in a win over Valhalla, then matched the total later in the week in their victory over Dobbs Ferry.
Maria Ribeiro, Hen Hud
She averaged 20.5 points and 11 rebounds last week, leading the Sailors in wins over John Jay-Cross River and Pleasantville.
Claire Schnecker, Ossining
The senior had 26 points, 15 rebounds, five blocks, three steals and three assists for the Pride in a 62-40 win over Arkansas’ Fouke High School in the KSA Invitational tournament in Florida.
Colleen Sheehy, Pelham
The sophomore averaged 18 points and seven rebounds in wins over Irvington and Byram Hills last week.
Julia Scott, Albertus Magnus
She averaged 27.3 points in three games last week, including elite out-of-state opponents Heritage (Virginia) and Bishop McNamara (Maryland). The forward also had 33 points, 18 rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks in a win against Arlington.
