On Christmas Day – Dec. 25 – most restaurants will be closed.
As a general rule, if you want to head out for a meal, your best bets are likely to be Chinese restaurants, halal restaurants, hotel restaurants and chain restaurants. Neighborhood bars will sometimes open in the afternoon; they can even be busy with people looking to take a breather after family gatherings.
Here’s a sampling of restaurants and bars in and around Rochester that will be open Christmas Day.

Hyatt Regency Rochester, 125 E Main St., will offer a three-course Christmas Day dinner buffet from noon to 8 p.m. Entrées will include herb-crusted pork loin and garlic and rosemary chicken. Seating will be first-come, first-served; walk-ins will be welcome for one to seven guests. The cost is $55 per adult or $27.50 for ages 4 to 12. Geneva on the Lake, 1001 Lochland Road in Geneva, will serve a three-course Christmas dinner with seatings from 2 to 6 p.m. Entrée choices will include herb-crusted prime rib and Norwegian salmon. East Izakaya, on Route 96 south of Eastview Mall in Victor, will be open 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Canada-based restaurant’s main attraction is its all-you-can-eat option, with loads of options including sushi, appetizers, soups, noodle dishes, main dishes and desserts.
Texas De Brazil, a Brazilian steakhouse chain restaurant at 22 Celebration Dr. in the College Town complex, will open at noon Christmas Day. (585) 473-2013, texasdebrazil.com
Taj Mahal Fine Indian Cuisine, 1742 Long Pond Road in Gates, will be open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and for dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. tajmahalny.com, (585) 434-0123.
Halal N Out, a fast-casual restaurant that serves chicken over rice and other street food staples will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. It has locations at 740 E. Ridge Road in the Ridge Hudson Plaza in Irondequoit and at 2833 W. Ridge Road in Ridgemont Plaza in Greece. Both are geared primarily for takeout. halalnoutroc.com.

Fattey Beer Co., 60 Adventure Place in Rochester’s Neighborhood of Play, will be open from noon to 10:30 p.m. It has 10 taps and hundreds of canned and bottled beers. Denny’s will be open 24 hours Christmas Day. It has a location at 2890 W. Ridge Road in Greece as well as others in Canandaigua and Geneva.
