The Miami Dolphins are on a hot streak with four straight wins that have propelled them to the verge of a .500 record for the first time in 2025.
Barring a miracle, it won’t be enough to take them all the way from their 1-6 start to a postseason appearance. Still, the Dolphins can keep those long shot dreams alive by pulling off a win against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Monday night also offers a chance to battle back against some narratives. If Miami can get a big win in the national spotlight while battling the cold, it could go a long way toward earning some faith that Mike McDaniel and Tua Tagovailoa both have what it takes to end the Dolphins’ playoff victory drought, even if that doesn’t happen next month.

Final: Steelers 28, Dolphins 15
Darren Waller gets another, Dolphins fail on 2-point try again
The Dolphins strung together an 86-yard touchdown drive capped by Darren Waller’s second touchdown of the night. But much to the chagrin of ESPN’s Troy Aikman, Miami was in no hurry on its way down the field.
Darren Waller comes down with jump ball for Dolphins’ first touchdown
Two plays after Tua Tagovailoa found Darren Waller for a 20-yard gain, he lobbed a ball up for Waller with Asante Samuel draped all over him. The 6’6 tight end came down with it for his fifth touchdown of the season. A two-point conversion subsequently failed.
Ex-Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith scores on 14-yard rush
The Steelers lined up tight end Jonnu Smith at running back and gave him a toss. He followed massive tight end Darnell Washington for a 14-yard touchdown that pushed the lead to 25.
Smith was traded to the Steelers as part of the deal that swapped Jalen Ramsey for Minkah Fitzpatrick.
Dolphins finish third quarter with negative-20 yards
A close game spiraled out of control for the Dolphins not long after halftime. Miami’s only two drives of the third quarter both ended with third down sacks. Meanwhile, the Steelers scored twice and were driving in Miami territory when the fourth quarter started.
D.K. Metcalf muscles through Dolphins for 28-yard touchdown
Dolphins safety Ashtyn Davis just missed deflecting a third down pass intended for D.K. Metcalf. Instead, it found its way to the receiver, who shrugged off a few would-be Dolphins tacklers on his way for a 28-yard touchdown that capped a 10-play drive to extend Pittsburgh’s lead to 18.
Jalen Ramsey gets drive-ending sack on Tua Tagovailoa
Former Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey made a big play against his former team, ending Miami’s first drive of the second half by blitzing from his safety spot and hitting Tagovailoa for a 14-yard loss on a third down.
Steelers strike fast after halftime with 71-yard touchdown drive
On a six-play touchdown drive, Kenneth Gainwell broke free for a gain of 38 after Ashtyn Davis missed a tackle. Two plays later, Aaron Rodgers found Marquez Valdes-Scantling streaking wide open across the field for a 19-yard touchdown.
Connor Heyward gives Steelers 7-3 lead just before half
The Dolphins stuffed a pair of runs near the goal line, but couldn’t quite do enough to keep Steelers fullback Connor Heyward from turning a direct snap into a 1-yard touchdown on a tush push play.
Ollie Gordon questionable with ankle injury
Rookie running back Ollie Gordon was slow to his feet after getting stuffed for a loss on a third-and-short situation. The Dolphins say he’s questionable to return with an ankle injury.
Riley Patterson hits career-long 54-yarder to break tie
With just over five minutes left in the second quarter, there are finally points on the scoreboard. After Ollie Gordon was dropped for a 4-yard loss on third-and-short, Patterson was called upon to hit from distance and got the job done.
Dolphins, Steelers trade punts
A short Dolphins drive that ended with a punt was followed by a Steelers three-and-out that was punctuated by a violent Zach Sieler sack on third down. With less than nine minutes left in the first half, the game is still scoreless.
Jordyn Brooks sack forces Steelers punt
Pittsburgh battled its way down the field with a pair of fourth down conversions and a 22-yard pass to D.K. Metcalf, but Jordyn Brooks kept the drive from ending with points when he threw Aaron Rodgers down for a 9-yard loss.
Tua Tagovailoa intercepted by Steelers’ Asante Samuel
After 14- and 11-yard gains by De’Von Achane and Jaylen Waddle got the Dolphins into Pittsburgh territory, a bad underthrow by Tua Tagovailoa was picked off by Asante Samuel. It’s an NFL-leading 15th interception of the year thrown by Tagovailoa.
Steelers go 3-and-out on first possession
Two short completions and a 1-yard rush weren’t enough to move the chains for the Steelers. The Dolphins will begin their second possession near their own 30-yard line.
Dolphins forced to punt on opening drive
After opening the night with a 20-yard gain on a short pass to tight end Julian Hill, Miami’s next three plays picked up only 3 yards and the Dolphins were forced to punt. Jake Bailey’s kick slowed up near the goal line, but couldn’t be saved and tumbled in for a touchback.
Dolphins’ matchup vs. Steelers set to be fifth coldest game in team history
It isn’t expected to be a snowy night in Pittsburgh, but it’s still going to be one of the coldest. According to Hal Habib of the Palm Beach Post, with temperatures under 20 degrees, it’ll be among the top five coldest games in Dolphins history.
The Steelers have a 22-game, 34-year win streak on the line
If Miami won at Acrisure Stadium, it wouldn’t just buck the Dolphins’ trend of struggling in the cold. It’d also end a historic run of prime-time dominance for Pittsburgh.
