Several players and a few teams already seem to be in mid-season form and have hit the ground running, putting forth excellent performances. As a result, we’ve got 10 candidates for Girls Basketball Player of the Week, presented by White Plains Hospital.
Read below about what the nominees accomplished last week, then cast your votes. The poll will be open until 3 p.m. Wednesday and the winner will be featured on the lohud sports social media accounts.
Madison Bortstein, Ardsley
She averaged 20.6 points in the Panthers’ first three games, leading them to two victories.
Morgan Clinton, Fox Lane
She had 12 points, 14 rebounds, seven steals and two blocks and scored the winning basket in the Foxes’ 38-36 victory over John Jay-Cross River.
Emilee Doherty, Yonkers Montessori
The sophomore scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Eagles in a win over Putnam Valley. She also had 15 points in the first half of their 62-42 win over Saunders that secured the Yonkers City Tournament title for a fifth straight season.
Megan Hartnett, Dobbs Ferry
She had 30 points and seven steals for the Eagles in a 61-46 win over Hastings.
Claire Jiang, Rye Country Day
She averaged 20.5 points, eight rebounds, 3.5 steals and three assists, leading Rye Country Day to victory in the Columbia Prep Tip-Off Tournament. Jiang was named tournament MVP.
Kendall Konigsberg, Blind Brook
The senior averaged 27 points in three games last week, including dropping 30 points and six steals for the Trojans in a win over Hastings.
Emma McHugh, Tappan Zee
She had 15 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Dutchmen in a win over Brewster. The guard also had 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals on Saturday in their come-from-behind win over Ardsley.
Abby Nadborny, Scarsdale
The freshman has averaged 17.5 points in the first four games of her varsity career, including 20 points to lead the Raiders in a 51-36 win over Blind Brook in the consolation game of Mamaroneck’s Keith Yizar tournament. Nadborny was selected to the all-tournament team.
Claire Schnecker, Ossining
The senior had 21 points, 16 rebounds, seven steals and four assists for Ossining in a win over Horace Greeley. Schnecker also had 15 points, 20 rebounds, six assists and three steals in their victory over Eastchester.
Olivia Sliwa, Ursuline
She had 17 points, nine rebounds and two blocks to lead the Koalas in a win over Kennedy Catholic on Saturday in the Our Lady of Lourdes tournament. She then had 20 points, eight rebounds and three steals on Sunday in a loss to Section 2’s Shaker. Earlier in the week, Sliwa had 21 points and 11 rebounds in their win over New Rochelle.
