Port Orange waterfront restaurant to permanently close after 15 years

A Port Orange dining fixture of 15 years will permanently close this month, reflecting a trend felt across the Volusia-Flagler region, where more than 30 dining spots have shuttered so far this year.

Hidden Treasure Tiki Bar & Grill, perched along Rose Bay’s edge at 5993 S. Ridgewood Ave., announced “with a heavy heart” the news of its Nov. 30 closure over social media Wednesday afternoon, after serving the community for more than a decade.

“This decision was not made lightly, and it comes with deep gratitude for the support, laughter and memories we’ve shared together since our doors first opened,” the restaurant’s Nov. 19 Facebook post reads. It’s those very moments  — big or small — that made the local tiki bar more than a scenic spot for island-inspired eats, but a place where life unfolded — where memories were made and held.

“We are incredibly thankful for the dedicated staff who poured their passion into every meal and every smile, and to our loyal customers who made our restaurant a special part of their lives,” the post continues, “Your patronage and kindness have meant the world to us, and we are proud to have been a part of this vibrant community.”

All staff from the Port Orange restaurant have been offered the opportunity to relocate to the brand’s Ponce Inlet locations, which will remain open.

Hidden Treasure continues to shine in Ponce Inlet

As one era draws to a close for Hidden Treasure, another has been quietly gaining momentum in Ponce Inlet.

Alongside casual dinners at Hidden Treasure’s Rum Bar & Grill of 14 years — named among the area’s best waterfront restaurants, guests can bask in a slow, sun-lit brunch at HT’s Sand Bar & Bistro, which debuted last year and now invites guests to linger over drinks long into the evening.

From sumptuous filets to crisp chicken cordon bleu, the eatery’s recent fine-dining expansion arrives as a sophisticated refresh, lifting the area’s expectations for both craft and service.

It’s at these enduring locations where customers can continue to support the Hidden Treasure brand, even as one branch of its family tree bids farewell.

“While our time as Hidden Treasure Tiki Bar & Grill is coming to an end, the relationships and memories will live on,” the restaurant’s recent post goes on to say. “… Thank you for 15 years of unforgettable moments. We wish you the best, and we will see you in Ponce Inlet.”

Customers react to upcoming Port Orange closure

Within a few hours, Hidden Treasure Tiki Bar & Grill’s post attracted more than 400 social interactions, with former employees and longtime customers alike taking to the comments.

“This breaks my heart. My first job when I moved to Florida. My best friends were made here. A TON of great laughs and memories,” Selena Gauthier wrote.

“Thank you all for the memories!” Tom McDonough commented. “Such a big part of our lives in the neighborhood and beyond. All the best to everyone there!” he continued.

“My husband and I had our first date here. Forever in our hearts,” Heather Vanis added.

Hidden Treasure did not immediately respond to The News-Journal’s request for comment regarding the closure. This story will be updated as information becomes available.
