ATTICA, IN — Purdue University freshman Finan Doyle’s plans to be an aeronautical engineer tragically ended Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle accident at Perry and Main streets in Attica, according to Indiana State Police.
Warren County Coroner Justin Brummett said Tuesday’s forensic autopsy indicated Doyle, 18, of Indianapolis, died from injuries he suffered in the crash with a pickup truck. His death was ruled an accident, Brummett said.
After the crash, Doyle was rushed from the scene in Fountain County to the hospital in Warren County, where he died.
Doyle was speeding northbound at more than 100 mph on his motorcycle when an Indiana State Police trooper saw him on U.S. 41 near Fountain County Road 650 North. The trooper lost sight of Doyle and notified nearby law enforcement to watch for him, according to state police.
Two Attica police officers passed Doyle, who sideswiped one of the officers, according to state police.
Doyle turned west onto Attica’s Main Street, then failed to stop at Perry Street about 3:45 p.m. Sunday. He collided with a southbound pickup truck, according to Indiana State Police.
Doyle was thrown from the bike and critically injured, police said.
Purdue spokesman Trevor Peters said, “We are saddened any time we experience a student’s death and offer our condolences and support to his family, fellow students, friends and all who are affected.”
Peters said mental health services for those on campus may be accessed at the Counseling and Psychological Services by calling 765-494-6995 or online at purdue.edu/caps.
