Cheers to the New Year.
If all goes according to plan, a Buffalo, New York, based brewery is expected to open a 25,000-square-foot taproom and restaurant in south Fort Myers early next year.
Signs are up and construction is moving along on Resurgence Brewing Company — a Seagate Development Group project — at 6150 Exchange Lane, near the intersection of Michael G. Rippe and Six Mile Cypress parkways, south of the Lee Health Sports Complex.
The highly anticipated opening will come more than a year after a groundbreaking ceremony was held in summer 2024.
Once open, in addition to the taproom and full-service restaurant, there will be an outdoor beer garden with two outdoor/indoor bars.
The taproom will feature air-conditioned indoor seating and covered patio with fans. There will be a space for private parties and small banquets, too.
“Our goal is to create a place where everyone feels at home, whether you’re a local or escaping colder climates for a bit,” Jeff Ware, owner and CEO of Resurgence Brewing Company, said in a news release.
“We’ll bring Buffalo favorites like chicken wings and beef on weck, but we’re also incorporating fresh ingredients and flavors unique to Southwest Florida.”
Beef on weck, by the way, is a roast beef sandwich — named for the caraway seed and coarse kosher salt-topped kummelweck roll it comes on — served with au jus and horseradish.
There will also be a wide selection of Resurgence Brewing craft beers, Blackbird Cider Works ciders, and a full bar.
Jeff and his wife, Erin, first opened Resurgence Brewing Company (RBC) in 2014 in Buffalo after realizing the city had no beer gardens like the ones they frequented in New York City.
According to its website, Resurgence brews nearly 5,000 gallons of high-quality, unique and experimental beer weekly. On the food side, RBC’s offerings include pretzels, nachos, handhelds (like fried chicken, short ribs and Chicago street burger), salads, wings, mac & cheese and rice bowl.
A grand opening celebration will be held soon after RBC’s original expected opening around the New Year.
After opening its first location 15 years ago, Central Rock Gym now has 28 locations in six states. The south Fort Myers one will be the largest in the Sunshine State.
“Central Rock Gym and Resurgence will offer a community gathering spot for food, fitness and fun, all under one roof,” the news release concluded.
