A 17-year-old Leon High School student was arrested Nov. 6 after authorities say the teen shoved a teacher during a classroom disturbance.
According to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began when the student attempted to start a fight with another student. A teacher repeatedly instructed the teen to leave the classroom, and the student eventually complied. Moments later, the student returned, yelling at other students and trying to reenter the room.
When the teacher again told the student to leave, the teen allegedly became upset and pushed the teacher to the ground, according to LCSO.
Deputies arrested and charged the student with “battery on a school official.” The teen was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
Officials said the student will also face disciplinary action under the Leon County Schools Student Code of Conduct.
“The Leon County Sheriff’s Office encourages parents and guardians to speak with their children about the consequences of misconduct at school and the importance of a safe and secure learning environment,” the agency wrote.
