Tremont football player Brett Bane II was voted the Journal Star high school boys athlete of the week for Oct. 20-25.
The senior quarterback accounted for three touchdowns to wrap up his prep career. Bane II threw for two and ran for another as Tremont beat Clinton, 40-0. He was 7-of-11 passing for 161 yards and two TDs all to Josh Papenhause. The victory ended a five-game losing streak for Turks (2-7), who lost four of those games by 11 points or less.
The poll closed at noon Friday. Information about the nominees is below.

Jaquarius Green, Peoria High football
The senior played a big role in helping Peoria High win a share of the Big 12 Conference title. “Big Baby” forced a fumble, recorded at least one tackle for loss and assisted on several more tackles as the Lions beat Normal Community, 36-14 on Friday night. As a 6-foot-4, 375-pound lineman, Green played both ways and only left the field for special teams. Peoria High (7-2) snapped Normal’s 27-game league winning streak and head into the Class 5A playoffs as a third seed.
Maxwell Kirby, Peoria Notre Dame cross country
The junior and reigning Journal Star runner of the year continues his season of dominance. Kirby, who has three victories this season, won the Class 2A Limestone Regional on Saturday in a time of 14:49.10. He covered the 3-mile course at Alpha Park in Bartonville nearly 34 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. In picking up the individual win, Kirby helped PND win the regional for the first time since 2017.
Oliver Wettstein, Washington soccer
The freshman came up big as the Panthers won a Class 2A regional. Wettstein, a 6-foot-3 goalkeeper, recorded a shutout as Washington beat host Morton, 1-0 on Friday. Junior midfielder Finn McGreevy gave Washington its lone goal, scoring in the 29th minute. This was the second victory for Washington over Morton in 10 days. The sectional host Panthers (25-1-1) now face Urbana (11-8-2) in a 5 p.m. Wednesday semifinal.
