OKEMOS — Anyone who wants to dispose of unused prescription drugs can drop them off Oct. 15 in the front visitors parking lot at Delta Dental of Michigan’s office on Okemos Road, north of Kinawa Drive.
Delta Dental and the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office are sponsoring the drive-through event in advance of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Oct. 25, the agencies said in a news release. The hours will be 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Controlled substances such as pain relievers, antidepressants, sleep aids, behavior modification medicine, pet medications and cough medicine will be accepted with no questions asked, the release said.
Anyone dropping off medications should black out or remove personal information from the packages.
Prescription drug abuse has become more common among youth over the past decade, according to the Ingham County Health Department. About 80% of those who misuse prescription drugs get medication from family members and friends through theft, buying, or being given the medication, it said.
