As the high school football season starts district play in the West Texas area, it is time to reflect on and highlight a key component of any football team: the marching band.
Bands infuse teams with energy and excitement, also creating an advantage by making it difficult for opposing teams to communicate on the field. Competition does not just exist on the football field, either, it exists between the bands.
Local high school bands will compete in regional competition this week for a chance to move on to area competition on Oct. 25 for 2A, 4A and 6A, while 3A and 5A will compete on Nov. 1. The UIL state competition will be held in the Alamodome in San Antonio from Nov. 3-12.
As with its football teams, each school takes great pride in its band and its members. Which band is the best in the West Texas area, though? It is time for you, fans, to have your say.
Voting is now open and will remain open for two weeks, and the winner will be announced shortly after.
