With the retirement of Judge Edward Elum, voters in the Massillon Municipal Court district must choose his successor.
Magistrate Andrea Scassa will make a terrific judge. I have known Andrea for 15 years and am always impressed by her knowledge, her demeanor, and her ability to be fair and impartial.
First, Andrea is family-oriented. She is married with four daughters and is incredibly involved with their school and extracurricular activities. Andrea is also extremely civic-minded and is always serving our community. She served as Massillon’s Ward 3 councilperson for four years.
Andrea has spent her entire career in municipal government, first as a city prosecutor and staff attorney in the Canton Municipal Court, then as the law director and currently magistrate for the last six years in the Massillon Municipal Court.
Magistrate Scassa is “Highly Recommended” by the Committee on the Judiciary of the Stark County Bar Association for the judicial position she is seeking. In addition, the Henderson Fraternal Order of Police endorses her.
I have observed Magistrate Scassa’s courtroom over 100 times during the past six years. “Tough but fair” is an accurate description of her rulings.
Magistrate Scassa has presided over 40,000 cases in her six years as magistrate.
Judicial experience matters.
I urge all voters in the Massillon Court District to vote for Magistrate Andrea Scassa to be our next judge on Nov. 4.
