DAYTONA BEACH — Construction continues on the future Trader Joe’s at Tomoka Town Center and Sprouts Farmers Market across the street. The yet-to-be answered question is when are they opening?
That’s appears to be exactly what a team of Trader Joe’s officials wanted to know when they visited the construction site for the chain’s future Daytona Beach store on Monday morning, Sept. 29.

When asked if they expected to open later this year, Tracy-Ann Reeves, the chain’s regional vice president, told The Daytona Beach News-Journal: “Hopefully.”
What about Sprouts?
Meanwhile the future Sprouts grocery store going up at the neighboring Shoppes at Williamson Crossing remains on track to be completed in late December, the project’s Orlando developer, Harry Kay, told The News-Journal on Friday, Sept. 25. Kay did not respond to further questions, but confirmed that his company plans to deliver the store, with both a finished exterior and interior, to the Arizona-based Sprouts chain by year’s end.
The future Trader Joe’s and Sprouts stores in Daytona Beach will be the first locations in Volusia County for the two chains, respectively.
Here’s what we know about the Daytona Beach Trader Joe’s
Reeves referred any additional inquiries about the future Trader Joe’s store in Daytona Beach to the Monrovia, California-based chain’s corporate marketing team.
Nakia Rohde, public relations manager for Trader Joe’s, in an email Monday afternoon wrote: “Tracy-Ann is now the Regional Vice President supporting stores in northern Florida. We have not yet confirmed an opening date (for the Daytona Beach store).”
Peering through the windows of the future Daytona Beach Trader Joe’s, workers could be seen on Monday building out the store’s interior, including shelving and wooden frames for what appears to be refrigerated coolers.
The chain’s website, locations.traderjoes.com, states that its planned Daytona Beach store at 1511 Cornerstone Blvd. is “coming soon.”
It also offered the following description: “At Trader Joe’s in Daytona Beach, we see ourselves as your neighborhood grocery store. Step inside and you’ll find unconventional and interesting products in the Trader Joe’s lable like Mandarin Orange Chicken and Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate, as well as everyday basics like milk, eggs, meat, bakery items, and fresh produce. What are they building next to Trader Joe’s?
The store at Tomoka Town Center is going up across from Dave & Buster’s. Also under construction next door to the future Daytona Beach Trader Joe’s is a Homesense home furnishings store that will be run by the same company that owns TJMaxx, Marshall’s and Home Goods.
Here’s what we know about the planned Sprouts store
The website for Sprouts has yet to include Daytona Beach on its list of current and future stores, but a leasing sign for additional retail space available at the Shoppes at Williamson Crossing includes the statement: “Coming soon Sprouts” along with the grocery chain’s logo.
The future Daytona Beach Sprouts is going up roughly a half mile south of LPGA Boulevard, along the east side of Williamson Boulevard.
Sprouts on its website and in its press releases describes itself as “one of the largest and fastest-growing specialty retailers of fresh, natural and organic food in the United States. Sprouts helps people live and eat better witjh fresh produce at the heart of the store and delicious discoveries for every dietary lifestyle. Always foraging for what’s fresh and innovative, Sprouts offers a carefully curated assortment of products that inspire wellness naturally, including organic, gluten-free, plant-based and non-GMO favorites.”
The Phoenix, Arizona-based Sprouts chain is also believed to be the mystery grocer that recently signed a letter-of-intent to build and open a second Volusia County store on the southeast corner of State Road 44 and Myrtle Avenue in New Smyrna Beach.
