Lit Brews coffee, bookstore opens soon, here's a sneak peek

A new chapter is starting in Lubbock, with the opening of the Hub City’s first locally-owned book and coffee shop, Lit Brews. Here’s what to know ahead of opening day, including a sneak preview inside.

Elizabeth Roberts, local author and Lit Brews owner, gave us a first look inside the shop at Lit Brews, 3501 50th St. Suite 124. Here’s what people can expect to find before the celebration kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4.

“I want to create an environment where people can have time for themselves, whether it’s 15 minutes, whether it’s three hours, I want people to feel comfortable,” Roberts said in a previous interview. “I want to make sure that we can have an awesome place for everyone to go.”

Before people even walk through the door, they will be greeted with paintings on the windows of books and dragons. Stepping in, customers can expect the scent of fresh pastries from nearby Apple Tree Cafe and coffee.

Black bookshelves, put together by Roberts and her family, house a selection of new and used books, separated by genre.

The genres are science fiction, fantasy, romance, horror, general fiction and non-fiction. These genres’ bookshelves end with a themed reading area with two chairs, tables, and lighting. The shelves also include nods to the genre, like a green alien in the science fiction area and fairies in fantasy.

Other sections with separate units or tables include:

Another unique feature is the reading room, a colorful space with emerald-green couches and an electric fireplace.

“This room is my baby,” Roberts said. “This is kind of a meeting room, reading room, whatever anybody wants to do. We’ll do events, so this might be a room we use for that.”

On the brews side of Lit Brews, there is a spacious cafe seating area in the back. The drink menu and its literary references will include:

There are sugar free drink options, and more literary drinks. Mini apple loaves, fried pies and cinnamon rolls from Apple Tree Bakery will be available.

Lit Brews has a website, litbrews.com, where people can sign up for updates and special offers. The shop can also be found on Facebook and Instagram.
