PRINCEVILLE — Princeville High School is one of 25 national finalists in the running for a $1 million upgrade to its football facilities, the school announced.

Wireless telecommunications provider T-Mobile awarded the Peoria County school $25,000 during a ceremony Thursday as part of the Friday Night 5G Lights Sweepstakes. Princeville is one of only 25 schools nationwide in the running and the only one from Illinois.

The grand prize money will go toward upgrading the football field with help from a stadium expert and a weight room upgrade from Gronk Fitness, the brand of former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski. He provided a personalized video to the school, announcing the prize and prompting fans to vote.

The school also will hold a celebration during its next home game, Friday, Oct. 3 at 302 Cordis Ave. in Princeville. It will feature “games, giveaways, and free concessions,” provided by T-Mobile.

This is the second year for the T-Mobile contest. Inola High School in Oklahoma was the grand prize winner in 2024.
