The National Weather Service has reported a tornado may have touched down near Sullivan and Delaware counties on Thursday, Sept. 25.
In a Facebook post, the weather agency stated a tornado warning was issued just after noon, and debris signatures were detected in the suspected area of a tornado.
National Weather Service graphics show the most likely area for a tornado to be surrounding the hamlet of Livingston Manor in Sullivan County.
Additionally, the National Weather Service said it has received reports of weather-related damage in the area, “but we have yet to get ground truth (via pictures, personal accounts, videos) of a tornado.”
A hazardous weather outlook issued for counties in New York and Pennsylvania, including Delaware, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Northern Wayne, Wyoming, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike and Southern Wayne, indicated isolated severe thunderstorms would be possible in the afternoon as a cold front pushes through the region.
The National Weather Service also expected periods of heavy rainfall, leading to ponding of water in commonly flooded low-lying areas.
