The No. 9 Florida State Seminoles dominated the Kent State Golden Flashes on Saturday, winning 66-10 in Doak Campbell Stadium. FSU’s offense started the game hot and never slowed down, scoring touchdowns on nine of its 12 drives.
The defense shut down the Kent State offense, holding them to 206 yards per play and 3.7 yards per play. The one bad play for the Seminoles came in the first quarter, when Kent State scored a 75-yard touchdown to make it a 14-7 FSU game. Kent State head coach Mark Carney explained how they set the play up afterwards.
“They play a three-high-safety defense for the most part,” he said after the game. “We thought quarterback run game might spook them a little bit, and showed that at the start of the play. DaShawn (Martin) did a really, really good job on a crack and go on their replace safety.”
Carney also talked about how quarterback Nolan Good played, their upcoming bye week, and more. Here is everything he had to say after FSU’s dominant win over Kent State.
Opening Statement
Yep, disappointing loss. All credit to Florida State. They’re a really well-coached team. Very talented. They don’t make a whole lot of mistakes.
Disappointed in the outcome for certain. Proud of the guys’ fight. You know, we’ve got to work on us.
On their touchdown
They play a three-high-safety defense for the most part. We thought quarterback run game might spook them a little bit, and showed that at the start of the play. DaShawn (Martin) did a really, really good job on a crack and go on their replace safety.
So, you know, great to see the big plays, but we’ve got to be more consistent down-in, down-out.
On how quarterback Nolan Good played
Yeah, proud of that kid and his development, his growth to this point. He’s earned the opportunity to go play.
At times, he did some good things. At times, he’s a little fast. You know, as he gets more and more experience, he’ll settle in and be a really, really good player for us.
On their focus during the bye week ahead of playing Oklahoma
Us, Kent State.
