SAND CREEK – Week Two of the Lenawee County high school football season saw the Sand Creek Aggies kick off their Big 8 conference schedule with a high scoring loss to the Quincy Orioles by the score of 56-26.
There were many bright spots for the Aggies in week two, one of which came in the form of talented freshman AJ Murdico who scored all four of Sand Creek’s touchdowns in the tough loss.
Because of his performance versus Quincy and thanks to the good folks of Lenawee County, who came out to vote in droves, we here at The Daily Telegram are proud to announce this week’s ModForce Home Solutions Athlete of the Week, Sand Creek’s AJ Murdico.
Murdico finished the week versus Quincy with a team high 17 carries for 143 yards on the ground with two touchdowns scored in addition to hauling in 10 catches for 71 yards and two scores. Murdico also completed one pass for 8 yards in the contest.
The freshman phenom kicked off his scoring on the day with a second quarter 12-yard touchdown run, closing the score to 14-6, followed by his longest run of the day, a 56-yard touchdown run, that closed the score to 22-12. The second half saw Murdico haul in a pair of touchdown passes from teammate Jackson Sutherland, scoring on catches of 5-yards and 11-yards to complete his day.
Murdico won the fan vote for week 2 of the ModForce Home Solutions Athlete of the Week with 60% of the vote in an abbreviated poll that pulled in over 9k votes.
Finishing in second place in the week two voting was Tecumseh Indians quarterback Brayden Baur while Britton Deerfield running back/linebacker Trevor Karpinski finished in third place.
