PANAMA CITY — Tho Bishop, chairperson of the Bay County Republican Party, says Sept. 10 marked a “dark day” for America.
Charlie Kirk, conservative influencer and founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on on Sept. 10 during an event at Utah Valley University.
While a lot of information about the shooting is still unknown, Kirk’s death was confirmed by President Donald Trump in a Truth Social post.
“I’m praying for this nation,” Bishop said. “Charlie Kirk was someone who built nothing short of a movement, and someone who prided himself — one of the few — in engaging with people who disagreed with him, which is what politics is supposed to be.
“This is a dark day for this country.”
Reports from USA Today notes the shooting happened as Kirk was starting his “The American Comeback Tour,” a nationwide tour of college debates.
More information will be released as it becomes available.
