Brevard high school football roundup: Viera, Eau Gallie, Palm Bay, Melbourne earn wins

Viera, Eau Gallie, Palm Bay and Melbourne all earned wins in the third week of the FHSAA season. In the SSAA, Bayside, Holy Trinity and Satellite won Week 4 games.

Viera 40, Astronaut 14

In Titusville, Viera defeated Astronaut to earn its second win of the season. The Hawks scored first in the first quarter and never trailed.

Viera scored three touchdowns in the second quarter, two of those occurring less than three minutes before halftime. Eric Nelson threw a 63-yard touchdown pass to Gabe Freeman with 2:59 on the clock. Nelson also scored on a short run with 46 seconds left in the half to give the Hawks a 26-7 lead.

After a scoreless third quarter, Nelson and Freeman connected for another touchdown and Duke Butler scored on a 12-yard run for the Hawks in the fourth quarter. Drekwon Jones ran in a touchdown for the War Eagles in the fourth.

Astronaut (2-1) will be at Space Coast for its next game. Viera (2-1) will go to Titusville High for Week 4.

Eau Gallie 16, Heritage 12

In Melbourne, Eau Gallie won a close game at home. The game was scoreless at the end of the first quarter, but Xavier Lherisse put Eau Gallie ahead with 1:02 left in the first half after he scored on a 25-yard run.

TJ Monroe scored a 1-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter to add to the Commodores’ lead with 9:54 left in the quarter.

Heritage responded 11 seconds later when Ky’zier Burch returned a kick 70 yards for a touchdown.

In the fourth quarter, Jeinner Samayoa made a 25-yard field goal to extend Eau Gallie’s lead. The Panthers got within four points with 4:19 left to play when Jordan Pidala connected with Nathaniel Owens for a 35-yard touchdown pass.

Heritage (1-2) is set to host Cocoa for Week 3. Eau Gallie (2-1) will stay home for a game against The First Academy (Orlando).

Palm Bay 34, Cocoa Beach 18

In Cocoa Beach, Palm Bay earned its second straight win after defeating the home team.

The Minutemen scored first after Remy Vigne connected with Arturo Stanley on a 42-yard touchdown pass early in the first quarter.

Lamarion Harris tied the game when he scored a rushing touchdown for the Pirates later in the quarter.

In the second quarter, Stanley caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Vigne to put Cocoa Beach back in front. The Pirates then responded with a rushing touchdown from Caden Newton, giving them a 13-12 lead at halftime.

Harris scored his second touchdown of the night on a 5-yard run in the third quarter. The Pirates scored twice in the fourth quarter with Bradyn Burnett scoring a rushing touchdown for the final score of the game. The Minutemen scored once in the fourth after Cajais Robinson caught a touchdown from Vigne.

Cocoa Beach (1-2) will host Satellite for its next game. Palm Bay (2-1) is at Merritt Island.

Vero Beach 38, Cocoa 3

In Vero Beach, Cocoa fell to the home team in one of its worst losses in years.

Efrem White threw two touchdown passes and scored one rushing touchdown in the win for Vero Beach. Cocoa’s points came at the end of the second quarter on a 45-yard field goal from Keelan Gonzalez.

The Tigers (1-2) will go to Heritage for a game in Week 4.

Melbourne 34, University 16

In Melbourne, after trailing at halftime, the Bulldogs scored 27 points in the second half to pick up a home win over University.

University led first in the game after a safety and a short rushing touchdown from Christian Maheu put the score at 8-0 the second quarter. Tyrese Jefferson got the Bulldogs on the board when he caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Edrick Hall with 1:56 left in the second quarter.

Jefferson gave Melbourne the lead after he scored on a 1-yard run. The Titans scored their only points of the second half in the third to briefly regain the lead after Maheu threw a 13-yard pass to Magnum Rojas. Melbourne went back in front after Hall found Jefferson for a 41-yard touchdown pass.

In the fourth quarter, Jeremiah Thomas caught a touchdown pass from Hall and Kymarion Johnson scored on a 15-yard run for Melbourne. The Bulldogs (2-1) welcome Halifax Academy for a game on Sept. 12.

Saint Andrew’s 21, MCC 9

In Melbourne, MCC fell to Saint Andrew’s at home. Saint Andrew’s took an early lead in the first quarter when Jack Williams connected with Dylan Faison for a 40-yard touchdown pass. Noah Flores returned the ensuing kick 95 yards to tie the game for the Hustlers.

The Hustlers took a 9-7 lead after Saint Andrew’s snapped the ball out of the end zone on a punt leading to a safety. Remi DeOrsey scored on a 12-yard run to put the Scots ahead 14-9 at halftime. Williams connected with Faison for one final touchdown in the third quarter.

MCC (1-1) goes on the road for a game at Riverview Sarasota next week.

Bayside 22, Tradition Prep 6

In Port St. Lucie, the Bears picked up a win on the road for Week 4 of the SSAA season. Colston Patterson got the scoring started for Bayside in the first quarter on a 12-yard run. Elijah Grimsley scored two 48-yard rushing touchdowns in the second half for the Bears.

Ethan Cohen’s 23-yard pass to Adrian Riveron was the only touchdown for Tradition Prep.

Bayside (2-2) will host Holy Trinity for Week 5 of the SSAA season.

Holy Trinity 47, Port St. Lucie 0

In Port St. Lucie, the Tigers earned a big shutout win on the road.

Holy Trinity scored 21 points in the first half to take control.

For Week 4 of the SSAA season, Holy Trinity (2-1) will travel to Bayside.

DeLand 57, Merritt Island 51

In DeLand, Merritt Island fell to the home team in a high-scoring affair that surpassed 100 total points.

The Mustangs scored the first six points of the game and held DeLand scoreless in the first quarter. DeLand scored 30 points in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 30-23 lead.

The two teams each scored a touchdown in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Merritt Island scored 21 points and DeLand scored 20 points. The Mustangs cut DeLand’s lead down to six late in the game, but the Bulldogs held on to win. The Mustangs (1-2) will host Palm Bay for Week 4.

Cardinal Mooney 39, Rockledge 3

In Sarasota, Rockledge struggled in its Week 3 road game. The Raiders (0-3) will be on the road again in Week 4 for a district game against Seabreeze.

West Orange 54, Titusville 21

In Winter Garden, the Terriers lost to West Orange. Titusville (1-2) will host Viera in Week 4.

Merritt Island Christian 55, Countryside Christian 16

In Gainesville, Merritt Island Christian continued its winning ways after earning a win over Countryside Christian. Bode Handwork finished with three touchdown passes in the win for the Cougars. Merritt Island Christian (4-0) will host Donahue Catholic for its next game.

First Coast Christian 27, Calvary Chapel 12

In Jacksonville, Calvary Chapel fell in its game to First Coast Christian. The Eagles (1-2) will be on the road for a game at Eastland Christian next.

Thursday night’s score

Satellite 46, Oxbridge Academy 7

In West Palm Beach, the Scorpions remain perfect in the SSAA after earning a road win over on Thursday, Sept. 4. Satellite (4-0) will play at Cocoa Beach for its next game.
