Ames volleyball player Elizabeth Greenfield and Colo-NESCO football player Landon Gjerde were voted the Ames Tribune’s female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of Aug. 24-30.
Greenfield earned female Athlete of the Week honors with 49% of the vote.
She put together a strong opening match for the Ames volleyball team during the Little Cyclones’ 3-0 sweep at Waterloo East on Aug. 26.
Greenfield delivered 13 kills on 29.6% efficiency. She also recorded seven aces on 18 of 20 serving and chipped in five digs.
Gjerde won male Athlete of the Week with 50% of the vote.
Gerde was fantastic on both sides of the ball for the Colo-NESCO football team during a 36-28 victory at Belle Plaine on Aug. 29.
He ran the ball 20 times for 124 yards and two touchdowns. He also made 13 tackles and intercepted one pass on defense.
