PONTIAC — Police Officer Tyren Mitchell followed his life-saving training to the letter to help keep a Pontiac resident alive earlier this year.
On Aug. 2, Mitchell responded to a medical aid call for a cardiac situation. Mitchell was the first on the scene and began CPR on Larry Graves, a resident suffering a cardiac episode.
“I don’t want to downplay it,” said Police Chief Dan Davis. “Many people have done CPR before …. Personnel at the hospital said that it was 100 percent due to the quick CPR and quick actions that definitely saved the resident’s life.”
Davis presented Mitchell with a life-saving medal during the Pontiac City Council meeting Sept. 2.
Graves is familiar with life-saving measures after serving as on the Pontiac Fire Department.
“My whole career on the fire department, I never thought I would be on the receiving end of a situation like that,” Graves said. “I’m thankful for Officer Mitchell. If it wasn’t for him and members of the fire department and EMS, I wouldn’t be standing here. From the bottom of my heart, I thank everybody.”
