The Monroe Public Safety Department is asking for the public’s help after arresting a man they alleged was trying to abscond from parole with an apparent gunshot wound.
At 9:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1, Monroe police officers responded to a 911 hang-up call in the 900 block of East Second Street. Upon arrival, officers found a 49-year-old man with a towel wrapped around his leg, bleeding from what appeared to be a gunshot wound, the department said in an announcement.
The man said that he was shot while riding his bike. Monroe Fire and Monroe County Ambulance provided medical assistance before he was transported to a local hospital.
“While investigating, officers discovered inconsistencies in the victim’s story. It was revealed that he was not cooperating with law enforcement and was, in fact, absconding from parole,” the department said.
He was taken into custody at the Monroe County Jail after receiving medical care.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Det. Alexander McKenzie at 734-243-7517.
The Monroe Public Safety Department also asks anyone with video footage of the event to use the following link to share it with investigators: https://monroepdmi.evidence.com/…/com…/public/mp25-01850
