Consumers needing to do some grocery shopping over Labor Day weekend are in luck, as most national grocery store chains will be open on the holiday.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the federal holiday celebrates “the social and economic achievements of American workers” and is rooted in the late nineteenth century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday “to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.”
Stock markets, banks and the post office will be closed. Garbage collection in most central Iowa communities will also be delayed by a dy.
