The Buffalo Bills don’t need anymore injuries to their secondary.
Buffalo Bills nickel cornerback Taron Johnson suffered a head injury but walked off under his own power in the preseason opener against the New York Giants on Saturday.
Johnson looked fantastic on the Giants’ opening drive, tackling tight end Daniel Bellinger on the first possession for no gain.
Johnson was shaken up on the second defensive possession.
On second-and-3 from the Giants’ 36-yard line, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart completed a short pass to tight end Greg Dulcich. Johnson made a break on the pass and ran through the 6-foot-4, 245-pound Dulcich for the perfect open-field tackle.
Johnson was slow to get up and then took a knee for an injury timeout. He walked off under his own power.
Johnson went into the blue medical tent, was evaluated for a concussion and was cleared to return. He rejoined his teammates on the sideline with his helmet in his hand.
Johnson, a second-team All-Pro in 2023, missed four games last year with an injured forearm.
Buffalo rookie cornerback Maxwell Hairston and safety Taylor Rapp are out for against New York with knee injuries. Safety Cole Bishop did not suit up with a quadriceps injury.
