EVANSVILLE — Republic Services announced Tuesday afternoon that trash pickup will resume Wednesday morning.
Trash pickup was delayed for Evansville residents on Monday and Tuesday collection schedules after Teamsters from Georgia brought their picket to Evansville’s Republic Services locations.
Local Republic Services workers are not on strike, but honoring the picket. According to the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility, the local union reached an agreement on July 19, ratifying a new three-year contract.
Republic Services locations impacted by the national picket in Evansville are the hauling operation on North Fares Avenue and Laubscher Meadows Landfill on Wimberg Road.
Tuesday, the company announced collection will resume at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. The same schedule will be in place for Thursday and Friday.
Residents with a Monday and Tuesday collection schedule will have their pickup resume next week.
Republic Services stated there will be only trash pickup at this time. Recycle and heavy trash collection are suspended.
“Any collections that are not completed on the regularly scheduled day should be collected, along with any extra bags placed by the cart, on the next scheduled collection day,” the business stated.
On the Republic Services website, residents can search using their home address to see if there are any service alerts for the location.
The pickets from the Georgia Teamsters come as sanitation workers in Boston are also fighting for a new contract and have been striking since the start of July.
Last week, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced over 2,000 Republic Teamsters were either on strike or honoring picket lines.
