If living in a castle is on your bucket list — and you have $1.65 million to spare — you could be in luck.
St. Augustine’s famous Pillars Castle, known by locals as the “pink castle,” is on sale for a cool $1,645,000. Originally priced at almost $1.7 million, the price recently dropped $50,000.
The three-story historic residence at 16 May St. boasts four bedrooms, four-and-a-half baths, and is a short distance from the Vilano Bridge and historic downtown.
What is the history of the Pillar Castle?
The 4,495-square-foot castle was built in 1922 by famed American sculptor C. Adrian Pillars who used it as a home and studio. You can see the eclectic tastes of the artist in much of the original decor reflecting the grandeur of a bygone era.
According to Bruce Ocepek of listing agent Coldwell Banker, the current owners purchased the property in 2021 as a vacation home and part-time Airbnb geared toward group stays and weddings.
“Everything is in great shape,” he told the St. Augustine Record. “The modern amenities are up to date and the owners preserved its historical charm. Everything is exactly in its place, clean and ready for its new owners. It’s really beautiful.”
What special features does Pillar Castle have?
According to the listing, the castle includes a great hall, a formal dining room, chef’s kitchen, mother-in-law suite, chef’s kitchen, custom bar, pool table and a private outdoor patio. Other features are original stained-glass windows, coffered ceilings and stone fireplaces. All the artwork displayed in the home is included in the sale.
The landscaped courtyard includes a fountain and gated rear-entry with enough space to accommodate off-street parking, plus a detached two-car garage, a covered carport and a driveway that exits through the back of the property.
