Caitlin Clark rookie card sets record for priciest women’s sports card ever sold

A new Caitlin Clark trading card sits atop the record books as the most expensive women’s sports card ever sold.

The former Iowa women’s basketball star’s 2024 Panini WNBA Rookie Royalty Flawless patch autographed one-of-one card sold for $660,000 through a Fanatics auction on July 24.

The rare collectible features a patch of the WNBA’s logo taken from the Indiana Fever’s ‘Red Rebel’ jerseys with the phrase “769 pts and counting” inscribed on the card accompanying her signature. The 769 points refer to how many points she scored during her 2024 season, in which she won the WNBA Rookie of the Year award and led the Fever to their first playoff appearance in eight years.

“It’s no exaggeration to say that when it comes to Caitlin Clark’s top cards, this one truly lives up to its ‘one-of-one’ stamp,” Fanatics wrote in the card’s description.

The card’s sale nearly doubled the previous record for the most expensive women’s sports card, also held by Clark. A 2024 Clark Panini Signatures Gold Vinyl Prizm autographed rookie card sold for $366,000 through Goldin Auctions in March.

Besides the jersey patch and Clark’s personalized inscription, collectors find the Flawless and Immaculate cards more desirable because the autographs on them are signed directly by the player, unlike the Gold Vinyl Prizm, which features sticker autographs.

How did Caitlin Clark get hurt?

Clark has been sidelined with an injury since July 15 after aggravating her groin during the Fever’s 85-77 win vs. the Connecticut Sun. The 23-year-old was ruled out of the WNBA’s All-Star Weekend and has missed Indiana’s last three games.

The team has not announced whether she will be available on Sunday, July 27, against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky.
