Heat and air quality advisories in Bloomington area. See the forecast

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Bloomington area for Thursday, July 24.

The heat advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Heat index values are expected to be up to 106 in portions of central, east central, north central, south central and southeast Indiana.

The service warns that hot temperatures and high humidity might cause illnesses.

The advisory applies to the following counties:

Weather forecast

Wednesday’s forecast is for a sunny and hot day with a high near 92 and a low around 74.

Thursday will be sunny and hot with a high near 94 and isolated showers and thunderstorms between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Air quality alert

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has also declared an air quality alert in effect in the area until midnight Wednesday, July 23.

Ozone levels are expected to be in the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.” Active children and adults, and people with respiratory diseases, such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exposure.
