Football recruiting: 10 highly-sought Central Indiana prospects in 2028 class

We are still a few months from the start of high school football season, but we are likely nearing a rush of commitments in the 2027 class in the coming weeks. The 2028 class is also starting to get significant recruiting attention. Here are 10 Central Indiana players in the 2028 class who are starting to see their recruitments pick up:

Markell Bailey, North Central: The 5-11, 175-pound wide receiver transferred from Franklin Central after his sophomore season. Bailey, who has offers from Miami (Ohio) and Western Michigan, caught 36 passes for 629 yards and 15 touchdowns as a sophomore for the Flashes.

Drake Coellner, Carmel: The 6-foot, 195-pound safety picked up offers from Indiana and Kansas in the past week, adding to an impressive list that includes Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Purdue, Texas A&M, Wisconsin and others. Coellner, the younger brother of Carmel quarterback and Boston College commit Anthony Coellner, had 72 tackles as a sophomore (45 solo) with four interceptions. 

Chase Grove, North Central: The 6-2, 180-pound Grove connected on 63.9% of his passes as a sophomore for 1,901 yards and 19 TDs. Grove picked up an offer from Purdue in January of 2025 and has since added an offer from Minnesota. He has taken visits this spring to Purdue, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Iowa and Iowa State.

Christopher Harris, Carmel: Harris, a Park Tudor transfer, has plenty of experience. In two years at Park Tudor, the 6-2, 180-pound quarterback completed 60.4% of his passes for 2,941 yards and 44 TDs. He also ran for 1,268 yards and 17 TDs. Harris picked up offers from Toledo and Miami (Ohio) last fall and added an offer from UConn earlier this month after visiting for spring practice.

Sam Hirschy, New Palestine: The 6-4, 260-pound defensive lineman had 63 tackles (46 solo), including 20½ for a loss, with 8½ sacks for the Class 5A state champions as a sophomore. Hirschy picked up his first offer from Bowling Green in February and has since blown up with offers from Auburn, Cal, Purdue, Kentucky, Missouri, Vanderbilt and others.

Darian Prather, Lawrence North: The 6-foot, 175-pound Prather completed 62.4% of his passes in his first year as a starter as a sophomore, passing for 1,678 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also ran for 740 yards and four TDs. Prather, who also plays basketball and runs track, was offered by Toledo during the season and added offers from Miami (Ohio) and Ohio earlier this month.

Jack Quillen, Warren Central: The 6-3, 185-pound Quillen enjoyed a breakout sophomore year as he completed 64.2% of his passes for 2,021 yards and 21 TDs in 11 games in an 8-5 season. Quillen has picked up recent offers from UConn and Miami (Ohio). He visited those schools this spring, along with Bowling Green, UAB and Missouri.

Joshua Rogers, Brebeuf Jesuit: The 6-3, 275-pound Rogers, a defensive lineman, had a breakout sophomore season with 42 tackles (26 solo), including 11 for a loss, five sacks and two forced fumbles. Rogers picked up his first offer last November from Missouri and has since added offers from Purdue and Kansas. He has made visits this spring to Florida, South Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Auburn and Rutgers.

Theo Schott, Zionsville: The 6-4, 220-pound tight end has seen his recruitment explode. He was offered by Purdue last June and has added many other since, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, LSU, Missouri, Notre Dame, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, USC and several others. Schott, who caught 26 passes for 305 yards and three TDs as a sophomore, took visits in April to Florida, Notre Dame, Indiana and Texas Tech.

Oscar Sloan, Center Grove: The 6-4 Sloan picked up an offer from Wisconsin during a visit over the weekend. Sloan, who passed for 1,689 yards and 13 touchdowns as a sophomore starter for Center Grove, has also taken visits this spring to Minnesota, Cincinnati, Iowa, Texas A&M and Florida Atlantic. He also has Power Four offers from Minnesota, Cincinnati, Maryland and Purdue. Sloan is finished with his spring visits.
