Curby's Express Market suddenly closes, claims expansion focus. Here's what we know.

A convenience store known for colorful drinks and a dog logo is shutting down Tuesday with little notice, according to the store’s social media.

Curby’s Express Market, 1903 Milwaukee Ave., posted a closing announcement on social media that its first location would be closing, effective Tuesday, July 22. The first of the company’s two locations is the Lubbock one, which opened in 2022.

“This decision was not made lightly,” the announcement stated. “This decision comes as part of the company’s strategic evolution to focus on fuel, beverage, and food-centric locations to better serve the West Texas community.”

This announcement leaves only one Curby’s location left, at 7200 W. McCormick Road in Amarillo. Curby’s purchased the former Station Food & Fuel in January and opened the location in March.

While the post, and comments from the company in the announcement, hint that additional locations are coming, none were confirmed. No upcoming locations have been posted on curbys.com/locations.

“We will miss you! Check us out in the future for more locations~,” the company stated in the comment section of the post.

The A-J has reached out to Curby’s, which has not responded as of 1 p.m. Tuesday.
