With latest tornado confirmed, how many tornadoes have been reported in Manitowoc County?

MANITOWOC – The National Weather Service office in Green Bay has confirmed reports of a tornado in Manitowoc County on Saturday, July 19.

Scott Berschback, a meteorologist at the Green Bay bureau, responded to an email Monday stating they are still reviewing the event, and cannot provide “details on track or strength at this time.”

The NWS received reports of damage from a tornado and possible funnel clouds on Saturday, when storms had been expected for the area.

Videos posted to social media showed the rotation happened at about 4:30 p.m. near Interstate 43 and Stone Road, just west of Manitowoc and Francis Creek.

With the tornado confirmed, it is the fifth to occur in Wisconsin this week. Four tornadoes were confirmed during July 16 thunderstorms across southern Wisconsin.

How many tornadoes have been confirmed in Manitowoc County in the past 75 years?

21 tornadoes were listed by the National Weather Service through Jan. 1, 2025. One more was added July 19, 2025.

When and where have the tornadoes been reported in Manitowoc County?

The most recent, prior to July 19, was in 2018, according to the National Weather Service.

Aug. 28, 2018: Several tornadoes were confirmed in Wisconsin, not just Manitowoc County, on this date. A tornado was reported near Kiel about 3:30 p.m.

Aug. 6, 2013: An EF1 tornado made a 33-mile path from Mackville in Outagamie County into Brown County and then to the Maribel-Larrabee area about 11:40 p.m. It was one of six tornadoes to touch down on this day.

Aug. 18, 2005: An F1 tornado touched down for about 1.5 miles south of Manitowoc about 8:35 p.m. It was one of several reported in Wisconsin on the same day.

July 13, 2004: An F1 tornado covered more than 4 miles in the Clarks Mills area about 2:40 p.m. Two farms suffered damage, and a calf was carried about a half mile away but found alive.

May 23, 2004: An F0 tornado touched down briefly a few miles east of Reedsville about 5:45 p.m.

May 12, 2000: An F0 tornado touched down briefly near St. Nazianz about 10:45 a.m. The storm also produced thunderstorms and brought 100 mph straight-line winds and hail.

July 5, 1994: Two tornadoes were reported in the Cooperstown area. The first was an F4 about 3:45 p.m. and covered about 3.5 miles from Maribel to Cooperstown. The second was an F2 and made about a mile path near Cooperstown within 10 minutes of the first. About $2.1 million in damages was caused by the first tornado.

May 24, 1989: An F0 tornado touched down about 9:15 p.m. just east of Cooperstown.

Aug. 4, 1988: An F1 tornado covered about 4 miles from near Reedsville to near Cato about 2:35 p.m.

July 12, 1987: An F1 tornado touched down about 11:30 a.m. just south of Francis Creek.

July 5, 1980: An F1 tornado was reported south of Valders after midnight.

June 7, 1980: Valders was hit briefly by an early morning F2 tornado just after midnight.

Aug. 4, 1979: An area near Manitowoc reported a F1 tornado about 10 a.m.

June 7, 1978: An F2 tornado was reported near Francis Creek about 3:15 p.m.

May 9, 1973: A few farms just north of Reedsville were damaged by an F1 tornado making a 2-mile path about 3:50 p.m.

Aug. 21, 1972: An F1 tornado made a 12-mile path from Goodwin to Two Rivers about 3:10 p.m.

July 1, 1967: An early morning F1 tornado touched down about 3 miles east of Kiel about 12:45 a.m.

June 30, 1967: An F2 tornado made a 7-mile path from Chilton to Valders about 11:49 p.m.

April 24, 1960: An F1 tornado touched down about 7 miles southwest of Valders about 4 p.m.

July 11, 1957: An F1 tornado was spotted southeast of Whitelaw about 2 p.m.
