Officer Nicholas Cauley, 38, was arrested July 18, 2025, on two counts of official misconduct and one count of harassment following an investigation by the department’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU).

“The trust our community places in us is built on accountability and integrity. When any officer violates that trust, it’s our duty to act quickly and transparently,” said Chief Chris Bailey. “We are committed to working closely with the prosecutor to ensure this case is investigated appropriately.”

On June 24, IMPD’s North District received an email from a female acquaintance of Cauley, stating her concerns about his behavior. Court documents show the department launched an internal investigation based on the information provided.

Detectives allege Cauley repeatedly contacted the woman despite her numerous requests for him to stop. Detectives also learned that while on duty and operating a police vehicle, Cauley drove to the woman’s job. At one point, he also used his law enforcement authority to look up her license plate information, a news release from the department states.

Cauley is a nine-year officer of IMPD and was most recently assigned to the department’s North District. Cauley is on administrative leave, pending additional review by the chief. His police-issued equipment has been collected, and his law enforcement authority has been suspended, the news release said.
