The Green Bay area is under a flood watch and a tornado watch July 16 as severe storms are in the forecast, according to the National Weather Service Green Bay.

Storms are expected to move west to east. Green Bay area has a slight risk of facing severe storms. There is a 15% chance of excessive rainfall that will lead to flash flooding.

A tornado watch was issued to run until 6 p.m. July 16 by the National Weather Service Green Bay, in which they say “a couple of tornadoes are possible.” Isolated hail up to a quarter size is also possible.

Rainfall amounts are expected to be 1-2 inches, but over 3 inches are very possible, the weather service said, as the severe weather is expected to start in the afternoon and taper off by 8 p.m.

“It looks like by midnight, the rain chances will be down to about 40% around midnight, and then it ends by daybreak on Thursday,” said Roy Eckberg, meteorologist for the National Weather Service Green Bay.

Eckberg said that one of the main concerns is the heavy rainfall can fall in a short amount of time, which could lead to urbanized flooding. The weather service recommends those who will be driving during the storm to not drive through water if they see it, as the roads could be washed out underneath, or you could be stranded or swept away.

Damaging winds will also be the main threats from the storm, with gusts up to 60 mph in the forecast.

Are other counties under a flood watch?

The counties included in the watch are Brown, Kewaunee, Outagamie, Calumet, Manitowoc and Winnebago. The watch says, “Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.”

Green Bay’s flood watch will go from the afternoon of July 16 through the evening.

What’s the temperature?

It will be mostly sunny before the heavy rain kicks in July 16. Temperatures will be significantly cooler in the evening. Here’s the forecast:
