On July 8, the company announced it is acquiring Loop Internet, a locally owned internet service provider in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

The transaction is expected to close later this year, pending regulatory approvals. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“Loop’s existing network footprint complements our current and planned service areas and will provide a critical base of operations, in addition to key personnel and resources in the Scranton area,” Greenlight CEO Mark Murphy said in a statement.

In April, Greenlight announced its initial expansion into Pennsylvania with projects totaling $19 million that will bring fiber internet to the northeastern and south-central regions of the state.

In addition, Greenlight is in the throes of a $100 million buildout in Baltimore, Maryland, and expects to start connecting customers there in September.

Founded in 2011, Greenlight offers connection speeds of up to 8 gigabits per second.

Currently, it’s in more than 225,000 homes and 10,000 small businesses across 40 municipalities in New York state, including Rochester, Buffalo, Binghamton and Albany.
