GOP holdout flips; Ohio's representatives vote along party lines on 'Big Beautiful Bill'

Ohio’s 15 representatives in the U.S. House voted along party lines on President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” after one Republican holdout compromised.

The U.S. House of Representatives narrowly passed the domestic package on July 3 with a 218-214 vote. Only two Republicans voted with Democrats against the bill.

How Rep. Warren Davidson, a Republican from Troy, would vote had been uncertain until the evening of July 2. Davidson is a fiscal hawk and one of two Republicans who voted no on a version of the bill when it first came through the House in May because he didn’t like how much it would add to the national deficit.

“This bill isn’t perfect, but it includes major conservative wins we’ve been fighting for — pro-growth tax policy, real structural reform to mandatory spending, border security funding, strong work requirements, and cuts to Biden’s Green New Deal,” Davidson said in a statement.

Among other things, the massive bill will make the 2017 tax breaks permanent, invest in border security, cut Medicaid and food stamps, eliminate taxes on most tips, end incentives for clean energy and add over $3 trillion to the national debt over a decade.

The rest of Ohio’s delegation voted along party lines.

Rep. Joyce Beatty, a Columbus Democrat, made it to Washington for the key vote wearing an eye covering and reportedly using a wheelchair. She defied medical recommendations to return to the Capitol, according to a press release from her office.

On X, Beatty called the vote a “fight for families, for fairness, and for our future.”
