The Chicago Bears still have roughly three weeks before they report to Halas Hall for training camp but that doesn’t mean players aren’t already putting in work to try and bring a winning season back to the lakefront. Last week, Bears defensive backs Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon, and Jaquan Brisker were running drills out in Las Vegas together, along with Seattle Seahawks cornerback Tyler Hall.
The defensive backs were running a variety of drills with trainer Johnny Johnson, Jaylon’s brother, as they look to help the Bears rebound following a disastrous 5-12 season. The drills included sprints, sled pushes, press coverage reps, footwork, and more.
Player-led workouts over the summer aren’t anything new, but it’s nice to see many of the Bears’ starting secondary getting together to get better before training camp arrives. Especially players who are part of the core. Jaylon Johnson and Gordon are both under contract for the foreseeable future and are set to play major roles in Dennis Allen’s defense this fall. Brisker, meanwhile, continues to get more practice reps following his return from a season-ending concussion a year ago.
These three members of the secondary will continue to build on these reps at Halas Hall at the end of the month when they reunite with all of their teammates for the start of training camp.
