North Port postpones July 4th Freedom Festival celebration due to weather

NORTH PORT –The city of North Port is postponing its annual Freedom Festival, hosted at CoolToday Park, from July 4 to Aug. 30.

The decision was made in part because forecasts indicate a high probability of lightning that would result in periodic closures, along with unpredictable weather patterns that could compromise the safe execution of fireworks and other planned activities.

“We understand how much this event means to the community, and we share in the disappointment,” North Port Recreation Manager Shelby Mendelson said in a prepared statement. “The safety of our residents, staff and visitors is always our top priority. We’ve thoroughly evaluated every alternative, but with the weather as unpredictable as it is, postponing is the responsible choice.”

The rescheduled Freedom Festival will maintain the same spirit of celebration, with live music, food trucks, family activities, and, of course, fireworks lighting up the night sky.
