Stark County native wins silver at X Games following an impressive Olympic performance

A Stark County native made waves at this year’s X Games.

Marcus Christopher, the BMX rider from Lake Township who competed at last year’s Olympic games, participated at this summer’s X Games in Salt Lake City, earning himself a silver medal in the BMX Park event. The X Games took place June 27-29.

“(Christopher) was ripping!” Rockstar Energy Drink said on its Instagram page following the win. “Join us in congratulating him on winning silver in (X Games) BMX park.”

The performance adds to a top showing at the competition last year, when he earned gold in the event.

Christopher could not be reached for comment for this story.

Who won the BMX Park event in this summer’s X Games?

Justin Dowell, a rider from the Virginia Beach area, placed first in the BMX Park with a score of 94.33. Christopher scored a 92.00. Third place was clinched by Rim Nakamura from Kyoto, Japan, with a score of 86.66. Here’s a look at how the results shook out:

How did Marcus Christopher perform in the Olympic games last year?

In his first Olympic appearance, Christopher came in fourth place in the BMX freestyle competition with a score of 93.11. Third place carried a score of 93.76, meaning he missed the podium by a slight margin.

“I was pretty bummed about getting fourth,” he told the Canton Repository afterward. “… There was stuff that in my run that I could have done different or could have cleaned up, but it’s pretty unreal. To make it to fourth in the Olympics is pretty amazing.”
