Cincinnati pool and recreation center hours expanded as heat wave persists

In response to the high temperatures being pushed into the weekend, the Cincinnati Recreation Commission is extending hours for five pools and opening two recreation centers as cooling centers.

According to recreation commission spokesperson Chris Pike, hours for the Hanna, Filson, Dempsey, Bond Hill and Madisonville pools have been extended until 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday until further notice. The only exception is July 4, when all pools will be closed except for Oakley, McKie and Dempsey, which will be open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Daily pool fees are $2 for children under 18, $6 for adults 18 to 59 and $4 for adults 60 and over. Bond Hill, Filson, Hanna, Millvale and Hirsch pools are all free this summer for children under 18.

The city also has nine free-of-charge spray grounds open every day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Two recreation centers will once again be opened as cooling centers this Sunday

All recreation centers are free for the public to use as cooling centers during their regular operating hours.

Typically, recreation centers in the city are closed on Sundays, but because of the heat advisory, the commission will open Lincoln and Bush recreation centers from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 29.
