Longhorns baseball lands former Temple star through transfer portal

Fewer programs have been more active than the Texas Longhorns in the transfer portal this month. That continued on Wednesday when former Temple star Andrew Ermis became their latest addition. Following a stellar season with Temple, Ermis hopes to build on his success with Texas while chasing a national title.

In 50 games during the 2024-2025 campaign, the San Antonio native posted a .338 batting average while driving in 36 runs. He set career highs in home runs with ten, doubles with seven, and hits with fifty. As the talented catcher got more playing time, he held his own at the plate.

While Ermis made headlines with his bat, he was also stellar in the field. The San Antonio Reagan High School product did not commit an error and caught three runners stealing. Even though the Longhorns’ primary catching duties will go to Carson Tinney, Ermis is a good backup option.

Over the last few weeks, the Longhorns have retooled their roster. The new faces joining Ermis include Kaleb Freeman, Temo Becerra, Jack Moroknek, Kaleb Freeman, and Luke Dotson. That group should give Texas pitchers plenty of support in the SEC. After winning a conference title, Texas is in a good position to build on its success.

Coming out of high school, Ermis was an impressive prospect. He was a two-time All-District player and ranked as the 24th-best catcher in his class by PerfectGame. His best season came in his junior year when Ermis ranked in the top 10 in the state in home runs with eight and RBI with 43.

Even though he will have to battle for playing time, Ermis did enough at Temple last season to put himself on the map. Now, he will get to show why the Longhorns believe in him.
