Florida-based budget airline Spirit Airlines wants people to know it has high-value travel options, too, with a renamed ticket lineup.
The new names are easier to understand and a bit more straightforward. “Spirit First,” instead of the former “Go Big,” for its premium “Big Front Seats,” for example, and “Value” instead of “Go.” The budget airline’s “Go Savvy” option will be phased out, the company said in a release.
“We’re simplifying choices so travelers can better understand and compare their options and the exceptional value that Spirit provides,” said Rana Ghosh, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Spirit Airlines. “Our Big Front Seat has been one of the best kept secrets, and these updates will bring more travelers in the know that Spirit offers one of the industry’s most affordable options for a premium experience.”
No changes to the experience other than new names has been announced, but the Florida-based airline announced in May that Spirit flights was updating its loyalty program and would start offering extra legroom seating this summer for the “Go Comfy” ticketholders (now called “Premium Economy”).
The move comes a few months after Southwest Airlines changed its own fare offerings overhaul.
Spirit has been in the news for less pleasant things recently, with a plane evacuated in Detroit over a bomb threat and a viral video in May showing cockroaches on a flight. The airline recently emerged from bankruptcy and shook up its board, appointing Dave Davis as its new chief executive officer.
Spirit had plans to merge with JetBlue but the plan was scrapped in 2024 after the U.S. Department of Justice sued to block it.
What are the new Spirit Airlines travel options?
Spirit is installing extra-legroom Premium Seats for Premium Economy ticketholders, which offer four additional inches of legroom, across its fleet, the company announced. The extra-legroom seating includes seven rows and more than 40 seats near the front of the aircraft and will be available for travel based on availability beginning July 9, 2025.
To make room in those flights, Spirit plans to phase out the blocked middle seat.
What is Spirit Airlines’ Big Front Seat?
Spirit First ticketholders get a larger seat in the front of the plane with up to 11″ more legroom compared to their standard seats. the airline says on its website.
Did Spirit Airlines change its loyalty program?
Spirit also announced updates to its loyalty program in May, including complimentary upgrades to Go Comfy (“Premium Economy”) and Big Front seats for elite status holders, based on availability.
The airline also expanded options for redeeming its loyalty points and announced a free checked bag perk with its co-branded MasterCard.
Full details of the loyalty program and seating updates are available on the airline’s website.
