Tallahassee firefighters knocked down a blaze at a two-story apartment complex on Texas Street, the city’s fire department said in a June 24 news release.
Units responded around 11:18 a.m. after “initial reports indicated that someone might still be inside” one of the units, located on the city’s south side. The good news: “A thorough search confirmed no one was inside,” the release said.
“Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames showing from the second floor,” the release said. “TFD crews immediately initiated an aggressive fire attack and conducted a rapid search of the building. The fire was located in a kitchen area and had begun spreading to other rooms. Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames and brought the situation under control.”
The name of the complex was not disclosed, although records show one complex, “Sunrise Place Apartments,” is located on Texas Street. A representative could not be immediately reached.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office was called in, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The value of the fire damages was not given. The Tallahassee Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Tallahassee Police Department and Leon County EMS.
