The Brooklyn Nets head into the 2025 NBA Draft as one of the more interesting teams in the league because of the many tools they have at their disposal. Not only does Brooklyn have five picks to use in the Draft, but they also lead the league in cap space. However, no one is sure of how the Nets will operate.
“The Nets have understandably been among the busiest teams in the predraft process, holding picks in every part of the first round and five selections in the top 40,” ESPN’s Jeremy Woo wrote when projecting the Nets to take Georgia forward Asa Newell with the 19th overall pick in the draft. Newell seems to be one of the players whose position in the draft varies depending on the team, but the buzz on Brooklyn is also something to monitor.
“Most around the league expect Brooklyn to be active in trades this week, though it’s not yet clear exactly what that will look like,” Woo continued. “The prospect of trading up from here to acquire a second lottery pick is among the scenarios the Nets could explore.” The Nets could make plenty of noise in the draft, but time will tell if they are going to use all of their picks or get creative with their capital.
As Woo wrote, there have been reports that Brooklyn could try to move up in the draft to get a better pick than eighth overall or they could attempt to acquire a second Lottery pick. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst recently said that the expectation from those around the league is that more first-round picks will be traded than the three that have already been traded prior to the official beginning of the offseason.
As of this writing, the Nets have yet to make any moves in the summer, but there has been plenty of noise of what they could do and how they could achieve those goals. With the Draft beginning on Wednesday, Brooklyn is running out of time to make something before the event begins, but as the saying goes, deadlines make deals. The Nets could be waiting for the right moment to pull something off.
