The collision was first reported about 1:45 p.m. at Summit Valley Road and Foley Road, in the unincorporated county area just outside of Hesperia, according to the California Highway Patrol.

It involved a Honda Accord, a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, a FedEx box truck and a GMC Sierra pickup truck, officials said.

Based on the preliminary investigation, it was determined the Toyota was headed south on Summit Valley Road, just north of Foley Road, prior to the wreck.

“For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Toyota made an unsafe turning movement to the left, into the northbound lane of Summit Valley Road, and where it crashed into a 2017 Honda Accord,” according to a CHP statement. “As a result of this impact, the Honda lost control into the southbound lane, directly into the path of a FedEx delivery truck, causing the right side of the Honda to crash into the front of the FedEx truck. After this impact, the FedEx truck overturned onto the driver’s side.”

The Toyota then continued traveling south, into the path of the oncoming GMC pickup truck, officials said. The subsequent impact caused the GMC to overturn multiple times, ending up in an open field east of Summit Valley Road.

“Emergency personnel located a male driver trapped within a black Honda Accord and he was pronounced deceased on scene,” the statement said.

His identity was not released pending positive identification and notification of family by coroner’s officials.

The other involved drivers suffered apparently minor injuries and declined to be taken to hospitals.

San Bernardino County coroner’s officials were summoned to the scene to take custody of the body.

Summit Valley Road was shut down in both direction for the investigation.

Any witnesses, or anyone with information, was asked to contact Officer J. Jarvis of the CHP’s Victorville Office at (760) 241-1186.
