A tiger with signs of minimal care was found in a property in Juárez and seized by a Mexican federal agency. The tiger, reported in a citizen complaint, is deemed to be a 2-year-old male.
Those in charge of the tiger had no documentation proving its legal origin, and it was found in a makeshift cage in a Juárez neighborhood without access to water and fed chicken remains, according to PROFEPA, which oversees the treatment of wildlife in Mexico.
The agency, along with state authorities, is initiating legal proceedings to combat trafficking and the illegal possession of wildlife specimens, according to the Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (SEMARNAT).
The tiger was transferred to a specialized site for safekeeping, where it will receive veterinary medical attention and a suitable environment, according to Juárez TV news station 44.
